How to Choose your Best Man for the Speech

If you’ve been watching the TV series Sherlock, you’ll know exactly what kind of a speech you want on your wedding day. Best man speeches are the make or break point when it comes to weddings. You want the speech to be completely honest, but in a way that captures the emotions of the crowd. The event in itself is extremely emotional. You’re undergoing a life changing event which will hopefully steer your entire life into a great direction and leave you a better man than you ever were before. The guests that will be present at your wedding will be well aware of what you’re going through. What brings out these emotions out in the open is the speech which your best man will be delivering at the occasion. The speech has the ability to strengthen and deepen the love which you and your bride to be feel for each other, as you’ll be hearing about your relationship from a third person in the most bare version possible. For these reasons, you need to think heavily on who you want as the best man that is going to be delivering the speech on your big day.

1.     Choose someone that you’re close to

This may not be half as simple as it sounds. If you’ve had a best friend since your childhood whom you trust completely, this might be an easy step for you as the answer is plain and simple. However, if you’re like the majority of people who don’t have a single person they’ve been really close to for the bigger part of their lives, this step can be confusing, aggravating and almost frightening. The concept of letting everyone who is eligible to be your best man down in favor for just one person is a really difficult decision to make.

However, you need to be a little ready to go through with this. You obviously have to make a decision sooner or later, so just be patient and start going over everyone you consider close to you.

Choose someone who you think is honest with you, even if the truth hurts. It’s also an advantage if that certain person is organized and eloquent, but not necessary. Honesty and sincerity are the most important aspects.

2.     Ask your future wife for assistance

Let your bride to be have a say on this. Don’t let her opinion be a complete opposite of what you want, but if you’re confused between two people, she might be able to help you out.

3.     Be diplomatic

There might be a lot of people expecting you to pick them as your best man for your wedding. They’re bound to be disappointed when they learn that you haven’t chosen them. Make sure you make it up to them and ensure that you’re on good terms with all of them before the wedding can proceed. They shouldn’t be too difficult to work around as they’ll realize you had to pick someone or another.
